On Sunday July the 4th, the recordings for ‘Pauw & Witteman Eastside’ took place in the ‘Meevaart’ in the Balistreet in Amsterdam East. Six people from this neighborhood re-enacted an episode of ‘Pauw & Witteman’, which originally took place on on the 21st of April 2010. Pauw & Witteman are two men presenting a Dutch intellectual late-night talkshow that’s broadcasted daily on national television in the Netherlands.
The purpose of this re-enactment was to explore the authority that people have or do not have in the media. What is ‘truth’ in the daily news? What is acted, staged, manipulated? Who’s voice is being expressed and in what way? Which version represents what? And who is invited on which TV channel to express their voice?
In the original episode Pauw & Witteman host the following guests:
Lodewijk Asscher, temporary mayor of Amsterdam, who has a fight with the garbage men on strike
Atilay Uslu, a successful Turkish travelagent that build a small scale copy of Amsterdam as a holiday resort on the Turkish coast
Joachim Voordewind, a Christian politician that wants to raise the legal age to drink to 18 in the Netherlands
Keith Bakker, an addiction ‘expert’ who make several TV shows with young addicts and who believes banning alcohol under 18 is not a solution
‘Pauw & Witteman Eastside’ will be broadcasted on Salto TV, a local Amsterdam TV channel, played by:
Douwe (Pauw) Fdm
Gerold (Witteman) Macnack
Lucinda (Asscher) Sedoc
Partana (Uslu) Visser
Magaretha (Voordewind) Willemse
Neeltje (Bakker) Wiedemeijer
