We were at the Majestic Bus Station when the demonstration passed by. Not knowing what it was for, we instinctively pursued the crowd.
We each observed the situation and tried to understand what was happening and what we were doing there. Navigating the space, interacting with the protesters, speaking with the demonstration leader, we documented our views of the event with video and sound recordings.
The protest was moving swiftly through the city, we walked with the crowd until it came to its final destination at a council building were they would wait until officials came to hear their demands.
Leaving the procession we discovered how different our experiences of the last 2 hours had been. Depending on our cultural backgrounds (North and South India, Norway, Switzerland and the UK), depending on our understanding of the language and of the social and political context. Our previous experiences of protests and the contact we had had with the other people in the procession. What we saw, and how we were seen. Our experiences were shaped quite differently.
The installation presented at Chitra Kala Parishath, Bangalore, consisted of 4 short video loops and a text reflecting our five different perspectives.
